P.G. Wodehouse displays his talent in oratorical storytelling with this compilation called Golf Without Tears. This book contains ten stories that will warm the heart and lift the soul of golfers and non-golfers alike. Each story is narrated by the oldest member of the golf club which is the setting of all of the stories. The protagonist uses the game of golf as an outline for philosophical and theological prose and renders advice to young club members that need it. There are only ten stories, but countless rounds of golf inside this novel. The comedic approach to these stories never strays too far from the game of golf. Most of the stories contain some sort of romance which ends with a hilarious anecdote. In one story, there are two men competing in a match to determine who will wed one woman. They find, much to their disappointment, that she despises golf and would much rather be playing croquet. The surprises in each story are very funny and add to the mix of golf and romance. I laughed out loud on numerous occasions while reading this book. Although I predict that any person could pick up this book and enjoy the time spent reading it, the most dominant aspect of this book is golf, and a general knowledge of the game is almost required. The vocabulary that Wodehouse uses might be a bit foreign to any reader that has had no past experience with the game. Golf is a game that attracts many different types of characters and this book embraces that theme of diversity. Golf Without Tears
